Lyrics
To: One Day I'll Stand
My
name is George Robert Cotton...
I
live down the road in an old shack that has been forgotten...
I
have no teeth in my mouth...
I
have walked the fields all over the south.
My
hair has fallen out and what's left has turned gray...
I
mull around this old shack every day...
My
cupboard is always low in food to eat...
I
have sores on my feet.
I
lost one of my ears in a war...
Fighting
for my country off shore...
I
am now blind in one eye...
I
awake every morning wondering is this the day I will die.
All
I have to wear is some old tattered overalls...
All
during the war I dug ditches and climbed enemy walls...
Arthritis
has taken over the body in my old age...
At
times I feel my government has put me in a cage.
I'm
behind on my property taxes and bills...
I
can't seem to get ahead for the government takes my tills...
My
body has all sorts of aches and pain...
I
can't afford to see a doctor or even buy a walking cane.
I
went to town the other day and people began laughing at me...
They
don't understand the problems I've had to endure; they make their decision on
what they see...
One
day I'll leave this ole earthly land...
God
has reserved me a place in Heaven where I'll stand.
